Lee Donaghy: Trustee & Safeguarding Lead

Lee hails from Birkenhead and attended Wirral Grammar School for Boys before completing a degree in history at the University of Warwick.

In 2004 he joined the Teach First scheme, which trains teachers to work in schools in underserved and disadvantaged communities throughout England. He taught history in London and Birmingham for 12 years, progressing into senior leadership, before moving into Initial Teacher Training. Since 2017 he has worked with hundreds of new teachers, supporting them to achieve Qualified Teacher Status and postgraduate certificates and diplomas in education.

Lee now lives in Leicestershire with his wife, two children and unruly dog, but his large extended family remains on the Wirral and he enjoys visiting often – especially to enjoy the sea air (his corner of Leicestershire is as far from the sea in all directions as you can get in England)! He has previously served as Chair of an academy trust and is currently chair of the local governing body of a school within a Multi-Academy Trust in Leicestershire. He is also an FA qualified football coach.

Lee and his family have been regular donors to the hospice since 2007, when his late mother, Maureen, spent her final weeks here and where she died of lung cancer. Having gained experience of governance in the education sector, Lee was motivated to apply for a trustee position by a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the organisation that cared for his mother with such kindness, sensitivity and compassion. He sees as a privilege the opportunity to contribute to ensuring such care is available for all Wirral families who need it.

Lee is our Trustee Safeguarding Lead. Read Wirral Hospice’s safeguarding information here.
