Bereavement Support

The death of a family member or friend can be a devastating experience and may bring emotions you have never felt before.

Grief is a very individual process. Some people find it easier to talk about their feelings and worries with someone outside their immediate circle.

If you have had a loved one cared for at Wirral Hospice St Johns, you can access our bereavement support.

If you have accessed our Hospice at Home services, we’d be more than happy to signpost you to bereavement support services available to you.

Wirral Hospice’s bereavement support service offers a variety of forms of help including:

  • Individual one-to-one sessions
  • Monthly bereavement support group
  • Twice monthly drop-in bereavement support café
  • Monthly walking group
  • Support with benefits
  • Spiritual support

We also have a children & young persons practitioner who provides one-to-one bereavement support to children and young people. At times, guidance and support can also be shared with parents so they are empowered to support their child.

Our bereavement services are tailored to supporting you during the first two years.

Although it may feel hard to reach out, we hope that you are able to make contact. Our support is here for you if you need us.

Feedback about our bereavement support:

We recently received a review on the IWantGreatCare site, which captured how we endeavour to help:

“Death of a spouse is something that can’t be prepared for, it rendered me senseless, with little capacity to do anything else but exist.

The bereavement support service did just that, it supported me emotionally, with kindness and compassion, enabling me to work through the darkest of days and helped me develop ways of coping.

Following on from the amazing one to one support received, the group sessions have allowed me to openly discuss my feelings and any issues with people who are also going through a similar journey and knowing that “I’m not the only one” has also greatly helped.

Through this service I have made good friends who have become a vital part of my new support network.”
