Gift Aid Explained

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows us to claim 25% more on your donations of goods or money at no extra cost to you – Gift Aid is a simple way to make your donation go further.

If you are a UK taxpayer, we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate from HMRC.

How to add Gift Aid to your donation

You can sign up in a way that suits you:

  • When donating money
Tick the Gift Aid box when donating online or on a form
  • When donating goods to our shops
Ask a member of staff for a quick Gift Aid form
  • Over the phone
Call us on 0151 343 0778 to make a declaration
  • Online
    Fill out our online form

Am I eligible?

You can Gift Aid your donation if:

  • You are a UK taxpayer
  • You have paid enough Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax to cover your donations

If you donate goods, we’ll write to you annually to confirm the amount before claiming Gift Aid.

What you need to know

  • The person donating must be eligible for Gift Aid and must only make a declaration for themselves
  • Gift Aid is not eligible for event tickets or purchases
  • Donations from companies are not eligible
  • Collections from multiple people are not eligible for Gift Aid

If you are a higher-rate taxpayer, you may be able to claim additional tax relief through HMRC.

How we can help

We are here to make things easy:

  • We can provide Gift Aid sponsor forms for fundraising
  • We can send a Gift Aid form in the post, or you can complete a Gift Aid declaration online
  • We can provide Gift Aid envelopes for donations in memory or for special occasions

Call 0151 343 0778 or email fundraising@wirralhospice.org

Speak to a member of our shop team about Gift Aid when you drop off donated goods for us to sell in our charity shops.

The impact

Last year, Gift Aid from donations raised an incredible £100,000 for Wirral Hospice St John’s.
