Research at Wirral Hospice St John’s
At Wirral Hospice we are committed to giving the highest quality care to our patients and their loved ones. Medicine is always moving forwards and the best care is provided based on the evidence that is produced from research studies.
We pride ourselves on being forward thinking and are fortunate to have been selected to take part in several large multi-centre research studies.
Connected Symptom Management – From February 2023, led by the University of Strathclyde:
We will select patients and carers from our outpatients and wellbeing service to use an app on their smartphone or tablet which will tell us on a daily basis how they are feeling. If they need to speak to a nurse or doctor this can be arranged. The app will be used for a period of 12 weeks in three-week blocks and the team will collect data on how user friendly the app is.
CHELsea II- February 2023, led by the University of Surrey:
This trial involves 80 different hospices and hospital teams across the UK and will be looking at the use of additional fluid when people are at the end of life. It has always been difficult to know whether symptoms people might have could be better or worse with the addition of fluid given via a drip, and this trial will help to answer those questions.
If you would like to know more about either of these trials of our involvement in research in general please do not hesitate to contact us.
Warmest wishes
Dr Emma Longford
