Sheena Hennell: Trustee

Sheena believes it is a great privilege to works as a trustee at Wirral Hospice St John’s and brings 38 years of NHS experience to the role. This includes a number of clinical roles in rheumatology, nine years within a commissioning role at Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and six years working at NHS England.

She is a registered general nurse (RGN) with a prescribing qualification.

As a commissioning manager, Sheena supported the delivery of medical and nursing care for planned, urgent and long-term conditions. She was directly involved in service transformation, the development of commissioning plans, writing service specifications and system & service re-design.

Alongside this, Sheena worked closely with the procurement team in the CCG and the specialised commissioning team for Cheshire and Merseyside.

Sheena has undertaken a senior nursing role at NHS England, monitoring quality and safety standards at trusts across North West England. She then worked in the performance and improvement directorate and supported emergency care and COVID response.

As an urgent and emergency care (UEC) transformation programme manager Sheena engaged with all North-West England trusts to improve standards, including ambulance hand-over times and the 4-hour accident and emergency targets. Recent projects included implementation of 111 First, leading the Ageing Well programme and delivering urgent community response and care home initiatives.

Sheena has published several articles during her career relevant to both rheumatology and prescribing, co-writing a book, Practical Prescribers for Musculoskeletal Practitioners.
