Nichola Sandman – Trustee
After completing her degree in History at the University of Leicester, Nichola began her career in the NHS as a Medical Secretary and then moved to the University of Liverpool in 2002. Since then she has acquired a vast range of leadership experience, and is now Director of Operations in the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences.
She has a substantial operational portfolio, facilitating the development and delivery of clinical and veterinary and life sciences education and training. She also supports the faculty’s extensive research portfolio, pursuing world-class research that aims to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities both locally and globally. She contributes to the development and delivery of the Faculty’s strategic plan, and leads on policy development and implementation. She is accountable for the sustainable management of the faculty’s finances and leads the Professional Services teams. She also contributes to the University’s corporate development, regulatory compliance and major change initiatives.
As part of her professional development, Nichola has completed training in accountancy, business management and leadership and is a Member of the Association of University Administrators. She has also recently completed the prestigious Women’s Leadership Programme at Harvard Business School (March 2023). In addition, she is an Appointed Governor at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Nichola is delighted to have been appointed as a Trustee at Wirral Hospice St John’s. She experienced first hand the outstanding care and support that the hospice has to offer when her mum was offered a place, and her aim is to ensure that the hospice continues to provide and extend that care across the Wirral community.
In her spare time, Nichola enjoys getting outdoors and has completed many half marathon races, but as time takes its toll she is doing a lot more walking instead! She also enjoys travelling with her husband, especially in their caravan, as well as spending time with her two daughters.
