About us
Wirral Palliative Care Education Hub is a partnership between Wirral Hospice St John’s, Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (WUTH) and the Specialist Palliative Care Team from Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (WCHC). Our collaboration works in an inclusive and supportive way to enable a wider delivery of education across the Wirral.
Our education sessions are designed for people interested in palliative and end of life care, whether they are fully qualified or undertaking further learning to enhance a career in health and social care. Sessions are delivered by experienced and practising medical, clinical, and allied health professionals, with a collective experience in primary care, community care, acute care, care homes and in specialist palliative care.

Palliative Care Study Day
Palliative Care and Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment sit hand in hand as more treatments become available for our patients meaning those with palliative diagnoses are living longer. The Six Steps to Success programme is comprised of six face to face workshops. The aim is to enhance end of life care through facilitating organisational change and supporting and educating staff to develop their roles around end-of-life care. This course is suitable for any care home staff who support patients with chronic, advanced, or life-threatening conditions, typically 1-3 representatives per care home.

Symptom Management for Palliative Care
Symptom Management Training is an in-depth course exploring how to manage pain, nausea and vomiting, respiratory secretions, and agitation at End of Life. The course will provide Registered Nurses with the underpinning knowledge and skills to manage symptoms appropriately to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Also, to recognise the signs and symptoms of palliative care emergencies and registered nurses’ role in initial intervention and management of Hypercalcaemia, Superior Vena Cava Obstruction and Spinal Cord Compression.
