Meet Vikki

Hospice nurse, Vikki, is our deputy community services manager.

Vikki has worked at the hospice for 2 years with the Hospice at Home team, which provides personal care visits and day & nights sits with patients in their own homes.

“I love the fact that we are able to provide specialist palliative care to people in their preferred place of care and be part of the wider community services delivering excellent end of life care.

No two days are the same. We hand over to our Personal Care team at 7.30 and the Hospice at Home sitting service at 8.30.  We deal with referrals, liaising with community nursing teams and the hospital discharge team, etc. There are phone calls to patients and their families, emails, home visits and troubleshooting problems staff and families may encounter throughout the day. Sometimes, helping patients and families who are in crisis. This is all interjected with lots of biscuits and chocolate, should we need, cups of tea and lots of laughter!

People assume that hospice care is all about death and sadness, and in part, they are right.  The reality for us is that despite that, we are able to honour a patient’s wishes and care for them in their own home, in familiar surroundings, with the people that they love, and that is extremely rewarding.  Making what is potentially the worst time in someone’s life just that little bit more manageable is worth its weight in gold.”
