Meet Beth
Beth is a nurse with our Wellbeing team. She has worked at the hospice for two years and says it is the most beautiful place to work.
“My favourite part of working at the hospice is having enough time to get to know my patients. It’s so lovely to have the luxury to sit and have a proper chat, usually over a cuppa and a biscuit! In wellbeing, we take real pride in building strong relationships with our patients.
Being a wellbeing nurse is a really varied role. I can carry out assessments for new patients coming into the service one day, then run educational sessions to help people manage their own health the next. We also run social groups for our wellbeing patients, as a form of distraction. Our patients love playing games, doing quizzes, crafting and baking. We as nurses are on hand to offer advice and support for patients who need it.
I often get asked if Wirral Hospice St John’s is a sad place to work. My answer is always no, absolutely not. There is an immediate sense of peace coming into the building. I’ve had lots of patients tell me that the hospice feels like home, and the people here feel like family. I absolutely feel the same way, and I’m so privileged to be a part of it.”
