Bev qualified as a doctor (MB ChB) from Birmingham University in 1993 and undertook her specialist registrar training in the Mersey Region, including completing a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) at Liverpool University and a postgraduate certificate in teaching and learning in clinical practice (PGCert) at Edge Hill University. She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP).
Bev has over 20 years’ experience as a consultant physician and gastroenterologist at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, was Mersey Gastro training programme director for 11 years and national recruitment lead for Gastro for 10 years. She has previously been chair of the BSG training committee, BSG honorary treasurer and a BSG trustee. In 2015, she was named as the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Clinical Leader of the Year in recognition of her national, regional, and local leadership achievements. In 2025, she was awarded the BSG’s President’s Medal for her exceptional contribution to medicine and to the NHS.
Bev was a Trustee at Wirral Hospice St John’s (WHSJ) from 2011 to 2020, completing the maximum 3 x 3-year terms. She is excited to return to the WHSJ’s family as a trustee again in 2025. She has lived with her husband, Andrew, on the Wirral for over 25 years. She loves walking on the beach with her husband and their black labrador, as well as spending time with family and friends. She is an avid football fan but having grown up in Manchester she doesn’t mention her football team too much in Merseyside.
