A fundraiser held in aid of Wirral Hospice St John’s was a huge success thanks to a local pub that’s bursting with community spirit.

Staff from The Rock Villa Hotel in Birkenhead held a ‘Family Day’ in May, which offered comedy, activities, music and a raffle, raising a fantastic £2,300. The event was greatly supported by local customers who were very generous in wirral_hospice_rock_villa_2013their donations.

James McDonald, a customer of The Rock Villa who helped to organise the event, also took part in this year’s Chester Half Marathon to raise sponsorship in aid of Wirral Hospice. James said, “Staff and customers chose to support Wirral Hospice as it has cared for so many of our loved ones and helped their families through incredibly tough times. The Hospice cared for someone I held very dear to me and helped them to pass away with the dignity they deserved”.

Kerry Threadgill, Wirral Hospice’s Fundraising Co-ordinator, said “We are delighted to receive such a fantastic amount and are very grateful to all at The Rock Villa for their kindness, hard work and support. They are a great example of how important the Wirral community are, as without this support, we would not be able to raise the money needed to continue to provide our special care’.
