Transylvania Trek & Hospice Project 11-18 July 2013 promises to be an #adventure
Published on: 24/01/2013A visit to Transylvania would not be complete without making your way to Bran Castle (Dracula’s home)! Rich in medieval heritage, Transylvania’s reputation as being a place with vampires and mystery is sure to leave any challenger transfixed by what – or who – may be lurking within the mountains!
If tales of monsters aren’t quite your cup of tea, we can guarantee that the breathtaking views will satisfy your thirst for adventure. With the opportunity to stay in the highest mountain hut in Romania at an altitude of 2,507m, participants will wake to views of a truly spectacular nature.
Consisting of 4-5 days trekking through Transylvania’s beautiful landscape, challengers also have the opportunity help out at a new Hospice Project based in Bucharest. This new Hospice will provide free of charge care to more than 700 patients a year; day care facilities with 5,000 attendances a year, home care with over 11,000 home visits a year and much more. Challengers will be able to help the Hospice by spending time painting, decorating and improving the shell of the building, creating a more homely and comforting place to be for the patients.
Whether you’re persuaded by the idea of conquering the mountains, visiting a bear sanctuary to learn about their habitat and the dangers they face or are inspired to help with the new Hospice, you are sure to find adventure and meet friends for life whilst raising important funds for Wirral Hospice St John’s work.
Our care is free to receive but not to provide. The Hospice costs £3million to run and we receive NHS funding of about £1 million towards our work. The remainder we have to raise ourselves. We have great support from the Wirral community but need to increase our support as the need for our special care grows.
There are 2 ways in which you can take part in this challenge of a lifetime and raise money for us:
Sponsorship option:
£300 registration fee + £1,900 sponsorship to be raised (flights & board inclusive).
Self-funded option:
£300 registration fee + £950 self funded costs (covers flights & board) + £650 sponsorship to be raised.
