Light up a Life: Sun 6 Dec 2026

Wirral Hospice St John’s will be lighting up the hospice gardens with 10,000 beautiful lights on Sun 6 Dec.

Light up a Life started in 1996 and has been raising much-needed funds for the hospice ever since. This year, we are celebrating 30 years of Light up a Life.

Making a Light up a Life donation

If you would like to sponsor a light in memory of a loved one or loved ones, please sponsor a light online

Or please call our fundraising office on 0151 343 0778 (Mon to Fri 9 am-5 pm). We kindly ask for a minimum donation of £5 per light.

You will receive a personalised card for each person you remember if you request this option on the online form.

The names of all loved ones you are remembering by sponsoring lights will be listed in our beautiful display Books of Honour at the switch-on event and throughout the whole of Dec. We will also create digital Books of Honour that can be viewed on this web page from Mon 7 Dec.

Please note: The cut-off date to have your loved ones’ names in our Books of Honour that will be displayed at our Light up a Life switch-on service on Sun 6 Dec is Wed 2 Dec. Names remembered from Thu 3 Dec will be printed in a separate Book of Honour displayed at our hospice on Christmas Eve.

We would like to thank you for your ongoing support in helping Wirral Hospice St John’s Light up a Life appeal, which helps us to provide our very special care for our patients and their families.

Light up a Life switch-on service

On Sun 6 Dec, we will invite all our supporters to come together in our hospice gardens for our annual switch-on service. The lights will be switched on at 5.30pm and our Books of Honour will be available to view at the hospice from 4pm.

Light up a Life offers an uplifting and meaningful way to remember family and friends who are no longer with us whilst supporting the care we provide at Wirral Hospice St John’s. We would like to invite you to sponsor a light to remember your loved ones this Christmas.

Light up a Life church service

Our Light up a Life church service will be on Tue 1 Dec, 7 pm at St James’s Church, New Brighton.

The church service will be a quiet service of remembrance led by Reverend Heather Atkinson. All are welcome to attend.

Following the service, there will be hot drinks, mince pies and Christmas cards available.

Parking is available locally surrounding the church.

Business Lights

We would like to invite local businesses to support our Light up a Life campaign by sponsoring a Business Light.

All businesses will be included in the Books of Honour and on our Business Lights web page, and depending on the value of your gift, your contribution will be promoted in other ways too.

Your support will enable Wirral Hospice St John’s to continue to provide care free of charge for patients from our Wirral community
