Syringe Driver Training for Nursing Homes

Aim of Course: 

The aim of this course is to give Nursing Home Registered Nurses the knowledge and skills required to use a Syringe Pump safely following current medical procedures.

  • Understand the procedure in the event of patient death.
  • Understand care and maintenance.
  • Understand common problems and trouble shooting.

Understand records management and monitoring.

Target Audience: Registered Nurses in Nursing Homes

Date & Time of Course: As per care home request

Duration: 90 Minutes

Course Content:

A practical session where Nurses will have to opportunity to set up a syringe driver and use the equipment. Relevant documentation will also be explained.

  • Use the T34 infusion device and understand the indications for use.
  • To use and set up the device.
  • To understand the correct rate settings and calculations.
  • To know the procedures for commencing, monitoring, and stopping the device.
  • To know how to remove and disposal of equipment.

Other Relevant Information:

By the end of 2023 – Community Nursing should not be attending Nursing Homes do set up and manage syringe drivers. The End of Life Care Team have nine syringe drivers for Nursing Homes to loan so you do not need to own your own syringe driver to have this training. The End of Life Care Team can provide support with second checking and observational practice too.
