Terrific Hospice Trio Tackled their Tricky Triathlon

What’s harder, a tongue twister or a tricky triathlon?

We now know, because three of our fantastic hospice team took on The Alderford triathlon event on Sunday 15th June.

Yes, ward sister, Ceri, bank nurse, Anita and medical director, Emma pushed themselves personally and, also raised some welcome funds for their beloved hospice.

Algae in Lake Alderford meant that the swim element was cancelled and it was was altered to a RUN-BIKE-RUN format. So, it became the small matter of a 5km run, a 40km bike ride and a punishing further 10km run to finish. Easy!

The event attracts the UK’s elite triathletes, and none of our team expected to reach the podium, never say never, HaHa, but just entering and taking part is a magnificent achievement.

Ceri and Emma said Anita was the driving force in them taking on the epic challenge (and also admit that from time-to time they did think, Why, Oh Why?)

Anita earned a special medal last year for accomplishing a challenge called the London Classics. A Serpentine Swim, a 110mile bike ride and THE London Marathon. this was three separate events over 18 months but still astonishing.

Ceri has accomplished half and full marathons and last year did the London Landmarks half marathon for the hospice but, she’d never been swimming in open water until earlier this year in training for the triathlon (that will come in handy next time, Ceri).

Emma is a keen open water swimmer and has also smashed the London and New York marathons.

So, they’ve all completed endurance events, Anita and Emma have even done a ‘sprint triathlon’ previously, which is only half of the Olympic distance of The Alderford but now they’ve all accomplished a gruelling Triathlon!

Oh, by the way, the triathlon IS more difficult than any tongue twister… Now, say it fast, three times, our intrepid trio, trounced the tricky triathlon!
