What a Walk to Remember!

Published on: 29/09/2022

A steady stream of people had been visiting our Wirral Hospice St John’s fundraising office in the fortnight before our 2022 Walk to Remember.

Picking up t-shirts for themselves, as well as for family and friends, they were all raring to go on the five mile amble along the Wirral coastline around New Brighton, between Vale Park and Derby Pool and back to the Floral Pavilion

The specially produced t-shirts have a big heart on the back which allows walkers to write in the name of the person or the people they are remembering in this well supported, meaningful and fun event.

From around 4pm, on Saturday 24th September, our walkers started to gather at Vale Park to register their attendance, with some more people signing up for the walk on the day.

Before the walk the excited supporters were treated to an hour of upbeat pop and rock songs from the Vale Park bandstand with popular covers band, Roulette. Their final song, “Proud Mary,’’ providing the ultimate mood music for an event which saw people literally “rolling, rolling, rolling (by) the river.”

At 5.30pm the walkers set off towards Derby Pool and, what a site to behold, as the line thinned out a little, the procession of people sporting their new t-shirts along the promenade offered a heart-warming spectacle.

The rain had threatened a little during the afternoon but, as it turned out, the sun really did shine on our righteous walkers who were greeted by the most spectacular sunset.

Whoever they were walking to remember for, people really felt that their loved ones were smiling down on them.

Walk to Remember will be back in 2023.
