It’s Occupational Therapy Week!
Published on: 09/11/2022It’s occupational therapy week, 7th – 13th November, 2022!
Our brilliant hospice OT’s, Katy Firth and Alison Martin, (pictured here on the left) support people to do the things they want and have to do, to overcome challenges, such as completing everyday tasks or activities. Part of their role is to help people to feel empowered to help themselves by providing advice to enable them to keep doing what they love and need to do.
This year’s focus is Lift up your Everyday, which is all about giving people the knowledge to make small changes that will have a positive impact on their lives, the steps people can take which may help make their everyday lives easier.
The role of an Occupational Therapist
- Listening
- Problem-solving
- Facilitating
Katy and Alison help our patients, as far as possible, to be able to help themselves, with gentle encouragement, experienced advice and with dignity and respect.
They work with people to find out which activities (including their pastimes and occupations) are important to them and support people to overcome their challenges to keep working or manage the tasks of everyday living.
