Please can you help protect Wirral Hospice St John's patients from the impact of coronavirus?
We understand that this must be a worrying and lonely time for you. We hope that you are finding comfort being in contact with your families but perhaps in different ways to how you are used to. We also hope that you are able to stay safe and well during these difficult weeks we still have ahead of us.
The coronavirus has had a crushing blow on our charity's ability to fundraise but we continue to provide compassionate end-of-life care for our patients and support for their families through this global pandemic.
We are hugely dependent on fundraising to pay for our hospice but as we are unable to raise funds in the usual ways, we have a special ask to see if you can help us.
60% of our money comes from our hospice charity shops, lottery, donations, and fundraising events. Necessary government measures keep us all safe but have affected us in a dramatic way.
Charity shop closures, cancelled events, and having to stop other fundraising initiatives will cause a significant shortfall of at least £280,000 over the next few months. This is a staggering amount of money for us not to have available for our patient care.
Our frontline team are out in force and our behind-the-scenes key workers are carrying our care and support services, just in slightly different ways to normal. We are spending more on PPE and other essential supplies to keep our patients and staff safe in the face of these exceptional circumstances.
To support local NHS services, we have also set up a temporary ward, separate from our Inpatient Unit, to specifically care for patients with coronavirus. We have called this our Sunflower Unit.
We will receive some government funding and Wirral Care Commissioning Group (CCG) funding but this will not cover our charity's costs or loss of income, so donations from our supporters are vital to us.
Please, if you are able to, the most effective way you can help us is by:
1) Signing up to Sponsor a Nurse - making a regular gift each month
2) Becoming a lottery member - top weekly prize of £2,000, rollover climbs up to £10,000
3) Or by making a one-off donation to Wirral Hospice's Urgent Appeal JustGiving page
4) Signing up to Move It May - a simple initiative to support us. Run, walk, cycle, climb or workout then choose your own distance. Once registered, you have the entire month of May to complete your chosen challenge, wherever you like, whenever you like (keeping within government guidelines of course)!
Other ways you can help:
Take part in Billy’s Big Virtual Quiz #1 - Billy Howard, Wirral Hospice’s Marketing Officer, valiantly entertains us through a series of 25 questions. The quiz takes about 30mins, which you can pause and come back to at any time. Answers are given at the end of the video. Just click on the video above so you can watch it on wide screen.
There’s no fee to access our quiz, however, if you feel suitably entertained by the end of it and think that Billy’s antics deserve a donation, please come back to this page www.wirralhospice.org/urgentappeal to show your support in any way you might be able to. #thankyou #wirralhospice #wirral #quiz
Donate through our Facebook fundraiser
Hold your own home-based fundraising event or activity, such as a sponsored campout, virtual quiz, set up a Facebook Birthday Fundraiser page, sponsored headshave, hold a living room danceathon... or any other ideas you can think of that your family and friends will willingly sponsor you for. You can set up your own JustGiving page linked to our Wirral Hospice Urgent Appeal page here.
Are you a UK tax payer? Have you signed a recent Gift Aid declaration that will allow us to reclaim 25% of any cash / card or cheque donations you may have made to us in the last four years? This is a really simple way you can help us on top of any donations you might wish to make or have already made.
You can also help Wirral Hospice St John's when you shop at your local Co-op! You can help us to benefit by nominating Wirral Hospice St John's as your Co-op local cause. Every time Co-op members shop, 1% of what they spend on Co-op-branded products and services helps fund community projects. Thank you for your support!
You can help if you buy something from Wirral Hospice's ebay shop. If you have designer or good quality items you'd like to donate to us, please contact the Fundraising Office on 0151 343 0778 so that we can make arrangements with you to collect these or for you to bring them to us when it is safe to do so. We will always try to get the best price for such donations and are extremely grateful for contributions of this nature to our charity.
Buy an item from Wirral Hospice's Amazon wish list - a great way to support the hospice and know exactly how your donation is spent. Our Wish List is a way of sharing with our supporters what items we would like to buy if we had the budget, or items that provide extra comfort and support to our patients and their loved ones.
You can also shop for items on our wish list using Amazon Smile, a sister site of Amazon.co.uk which will donate 0.5% of what you spend on their site to Wirral Hospice St John's (this includes anything you buy for yourself too!), just search for and choose Wirral Hospice when prompted amd they will make a donation to the hospice.
If you are a business and wish to make a company donation or donate PPE (fluid resistant surgical masks (type IIR), disposable latex gloves, disposable aprons, FFP3 respirator masks, long-sleeved disposable gowns, nitrile gloves), please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your contact details so that arrangements can be made with you that won't compromise the safety precautions and visiting restrictions currently in place at our hospice.
12) Download a picture of Wirral Hospice's John Bear with a rainbow to colour in. Display in your window at home. Take a photo and share on social media beforehand if you like - please tag us in and use the hashtag #wirralhospice and we will share your artwork!
