Intermediate Communication Skills Training

A free education session for all Wirral Healthcare Professionals who frequently deal with end of life care patients.

This full day session will support the health care professional to gain confidence in communication skills with patients, their loved ones and bereaved relatives.

Aims:

  1. Gain an understanding of the importance of communication
  2. Understand the definition of communication and overview of Elements: Non-verbal, Paralinguistic, Verbal
  3. Give the opportunity to explore personal limitations/boundaries of role
  4. Gain confidence in exploration of concerns
  5. Develop skills in management of situations
  6. Gain confidence in identifying a range of communication skills and strategies

Learning Outcome:

Through facilitated role play:-

  1. Recognise that people express distress and strong emotion in a variety of ways
  2. Elicit concerns and explore
  3. Recognise behaviours which impact on communication positively or negatively
  4. Recognise personal limitations and direct patients/carers to appropriate services or professionals
  5. Identify appropriate communication skills and strategies
  6. Respond effectively within their professional role
